Field Archery

What is Field Archery? A simple explanation would be to say that Field Archery is a series of targets set upon a path with varying distances and angles. But there is a little more more to it than that. Both the NAA and the NFAA hold Field Archery tournaments. Both are very different. Papago FITA Archers club member Dave Twigg is our source of knowledge when it comes to Field Archery. Dave has written two very good articles on Field Archery which we are listing here. Also, FITA has a very good article on FITA Field. The PFA encourages each Archer out there to try their hand at Field Archery when they can. You will find that it is a challenging, yet fun part of our sport.

2007 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor Target Archery Championship

The Papago FITA Archers hosted the 2007 Arizona Sate JOAD Outdoor Target Championship on Saturday, April 21. The Tournament was sponsored by Archery Headquarters in Chandler, AZ.

The day started off windy and cold with the possibility of rain, but it held off until the sun broke through about 1:00pm.  We had 25 JOAD Archers participate. We had a JOAD Team from Mexico signed up but unfortunately they had car problems in Yuma and had to withdraw. We hope to see more of their team in future tournaments.

The tournament went well because of all of the volunteers and parents. Special thanks to our Officials, Barbara Noblet and Ed Votruba. Bob Pian stepped in with technical advice and Mike Cullumber was tournament Director/DOS. Our volunteers from the club were Richard Doria, Angi Lopez, Mary Jo Dhein, Jim Mulvany, Jim Cantillo, Bill, Will and Anette Golz, Sue McGee, Glenn Liptack and Michelle Gibbs. A great big thanks to all of the parents. Without your dedication and support of the JOAD program, Archery's future might be pretty dark. Here are the results  and pictures are on the photo gallery.

For the first time the Grand Canyon State Games were held over two days. The Seniors and Masters divisions on Saturday, March 17 and the JOAD/Collegiate were on Sunday, March 18. Saturday's event saw 37 Archers participating. 27 Compound Archers and 10 Recurve all competed on one of the hottest days in March. Here are the results.

Sunday's event saw 28 JOAD/Collegiate Archers participating. Three Compound and 25 Recurve Archers shot on a day that was a little cooler than Saturday. JOAD's from Straight-N-Arrow, Straight-N-Arrow North, Mesa Targeteers and Papago FITA Archers shot along side Collegiate Archers from Dine' and ASU. Three JOAD Archers had scores over 800. Way to go.
